MAKING YOUR HOME COZY IN TIME FOR WINTER

A lot of people say that they don’t like winter. They compare it to the thrills of summer, and consider it to be too boring, too dark, too depressing. You can see where they’re coming from, but you have to wonder, if they could just change their thinking a little, they’d be able to see all the benefits that the chilly season brings. You might not be outside of the house as much as you are during the summer, but that’s no bad thing. Winter allows you to sink into relaxation and build up your energy. Don’t waste this opportunity! In order to get it right, however, you’ll need to get your home ready. Below, we take a look at a few ways you can cozy up your property in time for winter.

Set the Tone

Begin by setting the tone in your home, so that it’s in sync with the season. This will involve changing your pillowcases for darker hues (if they were bright during the summer), creating atmospheric lighting, and changing out your decorations -- out with the summery flowers, in with pine cones and candles.

Bring the Warmth

Try as you might, you’ll find it impossible to truly enjoy winter in your home if you’re always slightly chilly. Your home should function as a warm haven from the cold that’s outside, but it won’t fulfill that role if you’re always complaining about how cold it is. So before the chill of the season strikes, make sure that you can keep your home warm. A furnace repair will help to warm up your home, while having correct levels of insulation will ensure the heat doesn’t escape to the outside. You’ll also want to plug any drafty spots so that cold air can’ t find its way into your home.

Slippers and Throws

Staying cozy is all about having those warming fabrics on hand. It sounds ridiculous, but one of the best decisions you can make is to invest in a quality pair of slippers. You’ll get your money’s worth all winter, and will be oh so grateful for them on those cold mornings. As well as slippers for your feet, make sure you’re loading up your living area with comfortable throws and blankets. They’ll be perfect for those cozy movie watching sessions.

Fill the Space

If you have big, cavernous homes, look at filling the space. Even if the room is warm, large spaces can feel cold if there’s nothing there to make it cozy. Add items you love and which inspire joy in order to have the biggest impact.

Invest in a Cookbook

When you were a child, was there anything better than returning home from school to the smell of freshly baked cookies on a cold day? Not in our book. Now that you live on your own, it’s up to you to step up and make them for your family. Invest in a cookbook, and get baking. A few special soup recipes will also be worth knowing!
