Lake Tahoe | Family Vacation

Mt Rose Lake Tahoe Nevada
For years I have wanted to visit Lake Tahoe. This every season, western America, destination noted for its crystal clear fresh waters, epic winter slopes, and at times saucy western history has been on the top of my 'must travel to' list for years. Lake Tahoe has been a popular family vacation spot for decades. Everyone from the average joe, to stars like Regis Philbin, Wayne Newton, and even Cher have vacationed near the lake cradled by the famously peaked mountains. Though Tahoe has been itching at my wander bone I am so glad it was in the cards for me now, at this time in my life, with Milo. Traveling with my son as a single mother isn't always easy, but it is always worth it. Experiencing the world and new places with him is probably my most favorite thing to do!

Where We Stayed
Milo and I stayed in one of the incredible balcony suites at the Tahoe Biltmore Hotel. The giant balcony was Milo's favorite place to run and play. The views off the balcony were utterly breathtaking. The slope of the Tahoe terrain made it seem like we were nestled in the treetops. This historical and mountain rustic hotel was everything I expected from a Lake Tahoe hotel and more! The charming and professional staff was even accompanied by a lingering 1960's showgirl. If you stay at the Biltmore make sure to ask about Mary! Many of the staff have their own ghostly stories to share about the eccentric ex hotel performer. Milo and I had a blast wandering the hallways looking for the flashy mini skirt wearing Mary. Though all we got were some flickering lights.

Where We Ate
The Tahoe Biltmore Hotel has two restaurants on site. We ate mostly at the Cafe' Biltmore and loved it! The Southern Fried Chicken and the Biltmore Mud Pie were to die for. (no Mary pun intended) Las Panchitas was an incredible authentic Mexican restaurant who serves a perfect strawberry margarita in Kings Beach, CA just a short drive away, and Marty's Cafe in Truckee, CA has the most amazing breakfast! Though make sure you get to Marty's early because the chef is super popular. I almost had to wrestle a local for a seat. And trust me the pancakes are worth it!

What We Did
Lake Tahoe is so much more than just skiing / boarding down the infamous powdered slopes. We ventured the short drive over to Truckee California to check out the KidZone Museum, shopped, listened to live music, and sipped hot chocolate at Northstar Village, walked Kings Beach taking in the sights and rummaged through the most charming local shops. I found Milo and I the cutest matching sweatshirts at The Robin's Nest and even found some wall art at The Stevenson Gallery to put the finishing touches on Milo's woodland themed nursery decor. I will definitely be staying in contact with local artist and photographer Bill Stevenson for help with decorating the rest of our home.
