Weed It And Reap: Maintain Your Garden In 3 Easy Steps

by - February 28, 2018

With the best will in the world and after numerous attempts at getting a little more green fingered, we can still find ourselves with an overgrown jungle of a garden. It can seem like you need to spend every weekend outside tending to the flowers, pruning the shrubs, mowing the lawn, weeding and tidying. Even after hours of back-breaking work, it can be difficult to see if you’ve made any impact. Your garden should be an extension of your home and an area that you can utilize throughout the year. If you’re struggling to see how you can maintain your garden, take a look at these three easy steps that will help you keep on top of your foliage and fauna.

Little And Often

Once you have cleared your garden of the unruly triffid-like vines, the thick weeds and the mossy residues, you should have a blank canvas of sorts. Even if you aren’t the most green-fingered individual in the world, you should be able to recognize when a garden looks good, healthy and neat. If you have borders lining your lawn area with daffodils, a rose bush or two and some marigolds, ensure that you pop out once a fortnight, simply to deadhead the shrubs and prune back where necessary. This will take you fifteen minutes tops, and if you don’t do this, you risk encouraging an unruly forest once again.

Mow the lawn once a week in the summer and de-weed as necessary. Nettles and thistles are hardy and stubborn, but they don’t grow lightning fast so you should be able to keep your fauna free from their grasp.

Luxury Upkeep

If you are fortunate enough to have an orchard in your outside space, a hammock or two, or a pool, you need to ensure that these remain in good shape. A fruit-laden orchard will only produce top quality apples, pears and gooseberries if you keep the soil cultivated and the trees disease-free. Head out there once a month and maintain the space.

If you have an outside pool area, there can be nothing better than having a cooling dip to escape the heat of the midday sun. To ensure your pool is always ready to be enjoyed, you need to maintain it. You can get a pool service here, look into heading out on your own pool cleaning training course or instal self-cleaning filters. Even though flora and fauna of your garden area may be well-coiffed, you still need your pool and other additions to match up.

Many people neglect their patio areas as they assume that they can take care of themselves. It’s just some slabs of concrete, right? Nevertheless, it only takes one rogue weed, a bit of moisture or moss to crack your patio, cause erosion and make your outside dining area look like a lunar landscape rather than flat ground. Pressure wash your patio once in the summer and if you see any sign of weeds or moss, spray them with a simple weed killer. This way, your patio will remain as good as when it was first laid.

Simple weekly maintenance in your garden will ensure you never have to compete with an untamed jungle again.
