Best and Easiest Turkey Burger Recipe

by - December 22, 2017

Turkey burgers can be a bit of a challenge to make if you are unfamiliar cooking with lean meats such as turkey. If you try to make a turkey burger just like you would a beef burger you will get a dry stiff patty. Not good. Trust me. Turkey is much leaner than beef and requires a longer cooking time so to keep ground turkey juicy and tender add in my secret weapons when it comes to turkey burgers. Bread crumbs and sweet onions! The bread crumbs will help the ground turkey hold its structure and hold in moisture. When heated the chopped onions will release moisture and flavor into the patties. If you are looking for a leaner low fat version of the craved american classic try my Turkey Burger Recipe.

Ingredients

1 lb Ground turkey
1/3 cup breadcrumbs (I like original and Italian depending on the night)
1/2 cup Sweet Yellow Onion
Black pepper
Salt
1 tbsp Coconut oil

Toppings
Cheese of choice
Tomato
Pickel
Ketchup
Lettuce
Burger buns
(Optional) Butter to toast the burger buns
Directions
Combine ground turkey, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
Mix until the ingredients are fully combined.
Add onion and breadcrumbs.
Gently stir a few times until the ingredients are well mixed.
Divide the ground turkey mixture into 4 equal burgers.
Press to shape a round, 1/2-inch-thick burger.
Place burger patties on a plate and set aside.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat until hot.
Add burger patties carefully into the skillet and lightly press them.
Cook 3 to 4 minutes, until the bottom side turns dark brown.
Flip and cook the other side for 1 minute.
Turn heat down to low.
Cover and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until the turkey is cooked through or a thermometer inserted to the thickest part reads 165 degrees F.
Place cheese on top.
Cover and cook until the cheese melts, about 1 minute.
(Optional) Toast the burger bun with butter or olive oil in a separate skillet until charred.
To assemble burgers, on the burger bun, add pickles, and tomato, top with turkey patty and the other half of the burger bun.
Serve warm.
