Family Friendly Destinations & Activities - Las Vegas

by - July 22, 2017

So I'm sure the first thing that pops into your head after hearing "Las Vegas" is not Family Friendly. Hopefully after reading this you may change your mind. For me, Vegas is a pit stop on my way to other destinations. It's relatively close and it's a international "hub" airport for many of my commonly traveled destinations. So for me it's a win win. Now that I have my son and he is growing older by the day I am sure we will be making more and more weekend trips south to Sin City.
I lived in Las Vegas for almost two years in my early twenties and I quickly realized Vegas was much more than just the Strip. It's a small town feeling city with so much more to offer than just sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. The cliche Vegas lifestyle of pool parties, night clubs, and staying up all night was never my cup of tea so I ventured off Las Vegas Boulevard and found that there is so much more to do. In this post I will be including both on and off the Las Vegas Strip activities that are a bit more family friendly than the traditional sin city attractions.

Where To Stay
New York New York - This hotel is elegantly decorated in charmingly themed NYC style. With tons of restaurants serving kid friendly fairs including Hersey's Chocolate World! This resort has everything from a salon & spa for mom, steak houses and pubs for dad and even a roller coaster! Experience the hustle and bustle of city life all in one destination.

Excalibur - This is my favorite resort on the LV Strip! It's a Renaissance style castle decked out with knights armor and towers! I don't know of a little girl who doesn't dream of being a princess or a little boy who wouldn't want to pretend he is a brave battling knight! Excalibur is also the home of the dinner show Tournament of the Kings. (details below) Also featuring the Fun Dungeon which is filled with arcade and carnival style games!

Mandalay Bay - Mandalay Bay is a luxurious resort hotel featuring Mandalay Bay Beach that includes real sand, a wave pool, and over 100+ rentable day beds, cabanas, and bungalows. This is also the home of the Shark Reef Aquarium.

Circus Circus - Circus Circus is exactly what it sounds like! A lively resort hotel located near the end of the Las Vegas strip. With attractions such as circus acts, a game theater, Make a Splash water park and the world famous Adventure Dome! This is a kiddo paradise entertaining for all ages!

What To Do
Tournament of the Kings - A dinner show located at the Excalibur Resort & Casino. This dinner show is open to all ages and enjoyed most by children 5+. Performed nightly at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m and lasts about 75 minutes. This live story is based on the tale of King Arthur, takes place in a theater in the round arena where valiant knights on horseback get out their swords and go to battle in a fast and furious jousting competition right before your eyes. Meanwhile, you and your kids are feasting on a hearty three-course dinner using no other utensils than your own hands!
Children under 3 are free!

High Roller -  High Roller, the world’s largest observation wheel, in Sin City. At 550 feet tall (168m), Las Vegas' newest attraction lives up to its name, offering the most incredible views of the downtown and strip area, day and night. Ensconce yourself in one of the 28 air-conditioned pods for a half hour you won’t forget. Afterwards, check out the city’s newest entertainment quarter, The LINQ, where a dynamic array of shops, restaurants await you.

Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay -  Admire the marvelous Shark Reef Aquarium in the heart of the desert at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Adventure through the 14 exhibits containing exotic and endangered fish, reptiles and of course sharks. Relish in the up-close views of more than 100 sharks, including 30 in the 1.3 million-gallon main tank, one of the largest in the US. By walking through two underwater tunnels, get an even better sense of what it's like to be under the sea. All ages welcomed. Aquarium is open from 10: a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Madame Tussaunds - Madame Tussauds is the world-famous interactive wax museum on the Las Vegas Strip, located right in front of the Venetian. Featuring 8 incredibly unique themed rooms relive The Hangover with Alan and Phil in “The Hangover Experience,” pose for the paparazzi with Lady Gaga, get on the red carpet with Sandra Bullock, and fight crime alongside Spider-Man in the amazing Marvel Super Heroes 4D Experience. With well over 100 wax figures, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas allows guests to take pictures, touch and get up close in a themed setting. Madame Tussauds Las Vegas opens 365 days of the year at 10 a.m.

Where To Go
Town Square - Town Square is a shopping/entertainment village just south of the Las Vegas Strip. With shops like Whole Foods, Old Navy, Guitar Center, Sacs Fifth Ave., H&M and many many more there is something for everyone. Featuring novelty stores and attractions such as GameWorks, AMC Cinema, Children's Park and the Cactus Coaster. An array of  culinary treats and special entertainment in the form of live music, dancing, and outdoor movies. Town Square is a family must!

Red Rock Canyon Scooter Tour - Red Rock Canyon National Park is one of my favorite places in the WORLD, not just in Las Vegas. These scooter tours are super fun, can accommodate an entire family, and are a interactive way to take in the sights of the national park.

Grand Canyon - The South Rim is often considered the “true Grand Canyon” because it portrays some of the most iconic picture perfect viewpoints, including Mather Point, Yaki Point, and the Desert View Watchtower. Hike, dine, shop, and explore the Grand Canyon Village as you discover the Grand Canyon on an unforgettable tour. If you’ve never visited the Grand Canyon before, the South Rim is the place for you!

Container Park - Container Park is a multi level out door shopping center built entirely from re-purposed freight containers. Located right off downtown's Fremont Street Experience. With boutique shops, scrumptious eateries, and a children's park this is one of the best family friendly spots to hit while in the LV city. A 55 foot Praying Mantis, a 33 foot tall slide, giant LEGO Container Park and it's Children's Park are definitely a unique experience for the entire family.

Hoover Dam - Named one of the Top 10 Construction Achievements of the 20th Century, Hoover Dam continues to draw crowds 80 years after its creation. Attracting more than a million visitors a year, Hoover Dam is in Black Canyon, just minutes outside of Las Vegas.

  1. Yes, over the years I've seen Vegas allowing for more family fun atmosphere. The children seems to enjoy being there...Im also excited to see more hotels accepting pets. I have n't venture off the strip yet but plan on doing a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon in the future 😊

    1. yes! I was surprised to see all the pets while I lived there. one thing though is the walk ways get very very hot. Hot enough to melt my flip flops. so be sure to take precautions when it comes to furry friends.

    1. do it! hotels in vegas are so greatly discounted because they don't make their money from the rooms alone. (gambling, food, etc) which frees up that pocket book for fun and exciting family adventures just like the grand canyon!

  4. I've only been to Vegas and we went to the wax museum and the Hoover Dam. I like how you have some family friends ideas because, you're right, that's definitely not where people's minds go when thinking of this touristy city.
